Annual Awards
The Theatre Historical Society recognizes special efforts on behalf of THS and historic theatres through several awards:
Member of the Year and Honorary Member of the Year Awards recognizes an individual or organizational member of THS who has continuously demonstrated outstanding leadership, achievement, and contribution to the Society and its purposes, or been instrumental in work on outside projects in keeping with the aims of THS. Honorary Member of the Year recognizes a non-member individual or organization who has demonstrated outstanding efforts for THS or been instrumental in work outside the organization in keeping with its purposes. Members of THS may submit nominations to the Awards Committee chair. Nominees voted upon by the Board of Directors; winners are announced at the awards banquet during the annual Conclave. The submission deadline is May 15 of each year.
Outstanding Theatre Book of the Year Award recognizes the book judged to have best exemplified documentation and appreciation of historic theatres. Nominations are voted on by the Board of Directors and the award is presented at the awards banquet during the annual Conclave each June. To submit a title for consideration, use this online form.
Creating Theatre History Award recognizes dedicated individuals whose efforts have resulted in the ongoing preservation, restoration and operation of a historic theatre. It is not necessarily given every year, but rather only when merited.
The President’s Award recognizes individuals who have made distinguished and exemplary contributions to the Society. It is not necessarily given every year, but rather only when merited. The President forwards the name of the designee to the Board of Directors for confirmation.
