The Theatre Historical Society of America (THS) is thrilled to announce the winner of its 2014 Outstanding Book of the Year Award to author David Sechrest for his book “Columbus, Indiana’s Historic Crump Theatre” published in 2013.
Awarded yearly, the Outstanding Book of the Year Award recognizes authors who are actively documenting and celebrating historic American theatres both locally and nationally.
Published in 2013 by The History Press, Sechrest’s book examines the history and role of the Crump Theatre in the lives of the people of Columbus since its construction as an opera house in the late 1880s. In addition to covering the Crump, Sechrest delves into the fabled history of other Columbus opera houses and theaters and the historical struggle to establish a place for themselves in a small mid-western town.
Sechrest is also the creator of the Historic Columbus Indiana website (historiccolumbusindiana.org) that over the past thirteen years, has become a central point for local untold historic accounts. This is his first published book.
“We’re proud to recognize David for his contribution to the field – without passionate historians like David, the history of local jewels like the Crump would go unrecognized,” said Richard Fosbrink, Executive Director of THS, “we’re thrilled to be able to add this book to our research library for others to access.”
50% of sales from Sechrest’s book will be donated to the Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County to support the Crump Theatre. Copies can be purchased online at amazon.com.
