Behind the Scenes at the THS Archives:

Would you like to help the THS Archives, but can’t make the trip to Elmhurst to visit in person? Do you have a computer and know a little bit about Microsoft Excel? Then you can help!

Right now we are in need of volunteers to do data entry. As we continue to make the transition from typed indexes and card catalogs to electronic databases and Collection Management Software, we have a lot of data entry work to be done. We are calling for volunteers who can work from a photocopy of a typed index to create an Excel spreadsheet of the same information. This spreadsheet will then be imported into PastPefect Museum Software and allow us to search the collections more quickly and easily. For questions or if you are interested, please contact Kathy McLeister, Archive Director at archiveths with your name, phone number, and mailing address.

Stay tuned for more news from the Archives! I will periodically post interesting photos or tidbits from the collections, information about new donations, newly available collections, upcoming events and other ‘behind the scenes’ happenings in the Archives.

THS Archive Director

  1. I am not sure why it deleted the e-mail address, but it should read:

“For questions or if you are interested, please contact Kathy McLeister, Archive Director at archiveths@aol.com with your name, phone number, and mailing address.”

Could you try some web based collection management tool such as CollectConcept to involve the community for data entry? It supports standards such as museumdat, maybe entries can be exported and then loaded into your system?
