The latest phase in the ongoing renovation of Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

Workers have started restoration and renovation work on the proscenium, high walls and 20 percent of the ceiling inside Shea’s Buffalo Theatre auditorium. The $500,000 project — the third phase of an overall $2.5 million renovation effort at Shea’s — should be completed by Sept. 13.

Swiateck Studios Inc. is handling the painting work. Safe Span has constructed all the scaffolding required for the work. Both are local companies.

Shea’s, which opened in 1926, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is the only remaining Tiffany-designed theaters in the country.

Shea’s welcomes more than 250,000 patrons annually.
