DESPLAINES (Illinois) THEATRE REOPENS

DesPlaines Theatre reopens after two years of work

“With the flick of a switch, the marquee at the DesPlaines Theatre in downtown came alive at 8 p.m. Friday  Nov. 11 to the roaring claps of an appreciative crowd. After being dark for nearly two years while workers undertook a massive renovation and restoration project, the theatre’s reopening was greeted with perhaps as much anticipation as the first time around 86 years ago. . . .”

One of the many volunteers who helped in the restoration work was THS member Brian Wolf, a local resident who was present for the re-opening.  THS Board member Don Bohatka (who saw movies at the DesPlaines as a kid) and executive  director  Richard Sklenar were also in attendance. (RS)
