Preservation Wayne – Volunteer Opportunities

Detroit, MI—Preservation Wayne, Detroit’s oldest architectural preservation organization, is looking for volunteers.  The 2011 season kicks off with our volunteer recruitment meeting to engage prospective volunteers for our tours, programs, committees and behind-the-scene opportunities.

On Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Preservation Wayne will host a session that describes our programs, events and the various possibilities for involvement.  The session will be held at the Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church, located in Historic Indian Village, at 2411 Iroquois Street Detroit, MI 48214-1870, at the northwest corner of Iroquois and East Vernor.   For more information and to RSVP, contact Preservation Wayne at 313-577-7674 or through our email at For more detailed information visit the Volunteer page on our website at

People interested in opportunities to assist with the annual Theatre Tour and custom tours:  Are you more of a behind-the-scenes type?  We are in need of volunteers with experiences that would enhance our popular Detroit Heritage Walking Tour season which starts in May.  If you enjoy walking and talking; volunteering as a guide may be just the right fit!  There are also opportunities for our ongoing programs, workshops, events and committees. Training will be provided by our experienced staff and volunteers and will begin sometime after the recruiting session.

Preservation Wayne’s volunteers come from all over the Metropolitan Detroit area and Windsor, and are from all walks of life and age groups.  The common thread is a devotion to Detroit, an enthusiasm for telling its story and a belief that preservation has a significant place in our built environment and the redevelopment of Detroit.  Please join us and learn more about how you can become involved in promoting our great city.  Representatives from tours and from operations will be available to answer your questions and find the best place for your individual interests.
