Downtown Yakima [Wash.] movie theater is torn down [Uptown Plaza Thr]

YAKIMA — Yakima’s old downtown movie theater started coming down today. Uptown Plaza Movie Theater on East Chestnut Avenue]

Demolition crews broke out the heavy equipment this morning and kept working through the afternoon. Mercy Theaters won’t say what its plans are for the building yet. The company says it will make an announcement next week.

The Yakima Fire Department put the old building to use one last time for training on Saturday.
