KEOKUK, IA – The Plaza Cinema won’t remain dark long as a new owner, Eisentraut Theatres, reached an agreement Thursday with the River City Mall.
Eisentraut Theatres, based in Hillsboro, Ill., specializes in operating theaters in smaller markets. The Eisentraut family operates theatres in the Illinois towns of Hillsboro, Gillespie, Pana and Carlinville.
Jeff Eisentraut, owner of Eisentraut Theatres, plans to reopen the Keokuk cinema on Dec. 10 in time for the holiday season.
He said, all of his theatres are family-oriented with inexpensive prices. A movie attendee can get an admission ticket, popcorn and soda for just $6.
AMC Entertainment closed the three-screen theater on Nov. 28. The company identified AMC Plaza 3 as a theater that no longer competed effectively in the marketplace.
The theater initially was established in the late 1960s.
Eisentraut, who has been a theater owner for 39 years, once owned the Fox Theatre in Fort Madison.
Early this week, he plans to announce the movie line-up for the reopening.
