Elmhurst’s 15th Annual Museum Day a Success

One of the York Theatre's marquees announces Museum Day.

On Sunday, May 15th, Theatre Historical Society participated again in Elmhurst’s annual Museum Day.  Elmhurst’s annual Museum Day celebrates International Museum Day. Each museum features free admission, exhibits, kids’ activities and prize drawings. The City of Elmhurst provides a trolley bus to shuttle patrons between the four museums.

In four hours THS had approximately 300 people come through the museum.  Visitors saw a revamped “Anatomy of a Movie Palace” exhibit and two new exhibits: “Theatres of Architect Walter Ahlschalger” and the interactive “Marquee” exhibit.  Children also did a worksheet activity to match different types of theatres (amphitheater, movie palace, drive-in, etc.) with the corresponding picture.  Kids who completed the sheet received a director’s clapboard key chain as their prize.

One of the museum's young visitors spells out her name on the magnetic marquee
