Using the THS Archives – Beginner’s Workshop
The American Theatre Architecture Archive at THS holds a wealth of information on theatre history. While access to the archives is open to all researchers, it can be difficult to know how to begin! “Using the THS Archives – Beginner’s Workshop” is designed to equip THS members with a basic toolkit for archival research. From archival object handling and care to understanding finding aids and using web resources, to tips for discovering the information you need in the sometimes overwhelming collections, participants leaving this workshop will be newly equipped with the skills they need to effectively research at the THS archive, and at many others.
This 90 minute workshop will feature an information session and time for hands on research.
Date: Saturday, January 17, 2015
Location: Willis & Shirley Johnson and Classic Cinemas Research & Education Center at THS, 152 N York Street, Elmhurst, IL 60126
(Please note the Willis & Shirley Johnson and Classic Cinemas Research & Education Center is not currently handicap accessible.)
This workshop is only open to current THS members.
Registration is limited to 10 participants.
All participants will need to submit a “theatre or theatre topic of interest” with their RSVP.

The competition is intended to encourage interest in research and writing on historic theatres and to provide additional content for Marquee®, the quarterly journal of the Society. Certificates and monetary prizes are awarded for the winning entries.
The Outstanding Theatre Book of the Year Award recognizes the book judged to have best exemplified documentation and appreciation of historic theatres. Nominations are voted on by the Board of Directors and the award is presented at the awards banquet during the annual Conclave each June.
