It’s a city landmark, a piece of history, and it’s completely under construction.

The Lerner Theater, formerly known as the Elco, has been undergoing renovations for the past year. Few know what’s happening on the inside. We got to take a tour of the progress with the Project Manager, Joe Tinervia.

“We’re standing right now on the east side of the Grand Ballroom. This will service as a space for weddings, receptions, you name it, conventions, that sort of thing. What will be happening downstairs is going to be a new ticketing office as well as support offices and both this level and the level beneath us are going to have some rest rooms too, much needed for a theater,” Project Manager Joe Tinervia said.

From the Grand Ballroom, we moved downstairs where the backstage area will be.

“So this is the back of the stage part. I’m still standing in the addition. What you’re seeing here is some of the opening that will be connecting the new and the old together, make it a little bit more functional. There’s a loading area behind me where trucks can bring in sound equipment, that sort of thing,” Tinervia said.

Finally, the part we had been waiting for, the ceiling of the old theater.
