H YDE PARK – Seven teenage musicians are playing their part in helping restore the Friday Morning Musicale, a 1920s landmark theater showing its age.
At a glance, the Mediterranean Revival-style building with arched windows looks healthy. But close inspection reveals the wear of Florida heat, humidity and 80-plus hurricane seasons.
Most of the musicians coming to the rescue – six of them are Plant High School seniors – are longtime friends of the theater, a part of their lives since grade school.
The idea to perform their senior recitals as a benefit for the aging building started with pianist Mikhail Nazareth. He approached six friends, all musicians, and all receptive to the idea of performing individually at the fundraiser.
