KAIMUKI (HawaiiNewsNow) – A grassroots effort got underway to save historic buildings and homes in East Oahu.

One of their main focuses is the Queen Theater on Waialae Avenue. It’s considered one of the most endangered historic sites in the state.

It’s been closed for more than 20 years and some say it’s become a hazard and a major eye-sore.

“The Friends of the Queen Theater” say they haven’t been able to meet with the property owner. They hope to save what many call the anchor to the Kaimuki business district.
