The Golden State, Monterey, as a wedding chapel.

Golden State, Monterey CA – small smoky fire

The Golden State, Monterey, as a wedding chapel.

THS Board member and Central Valley 2012 Conclave/ Theatre Tour co-chair Gary Parks sends this news which could have been far worse.  Gary and Rebecca were married in this theatre; organ guru Tom Delay is involved with the pipe organ in the Golden State.

“The Monterey Fire Department got some fortunate help early Saturday from a melting water line, which helped contain a fire in an electrical room at the Golden State Theatre . . .”

For those who don’t know, our Wedding there was in December, 2001. At that time, the theatre had had very little restoration done to it. THS visited this theatre during the 2008 Conclave. Inauguration of its “new” Wurlitzer (originally from the Parkside Theatre, San Francisco) took place in Fall, 1994. We used it in our Wedding for a 20+ minute overture and a postlude as well, with longtime Bay Area organist Bill Langford at the console.

  2. Congrats, Gary & Rebecca.
