Holiday Open House at Auburn (NY) Schine Theater

Baby, it was cold outside, and inside too!  But the energy generated by enthusiastic volunteers and eager visitors alike kept everyone laughing and happy at the annual Holiday Open House at the Auburn Schine Theater on Sunday.

THS Member Jim Loperfido, the new President of the Cayuga County Arts Council – owners of the Schine Theater – was on hand to talk about the next steps toward bringing this iconic Eberson Art Deco masterpiece back to life.

Long time Schine Theater advocate Todd Gaglianese proudly displayed his extensive collection of vintage photos and artifacts to a never-ending assembly of local residents, many of whom shared cherished memories of the long-shuttered theater.  Todd, Save Our Schine chair Peter Ruzicka and committee members greeted guests with warm cider, cookies and smiles.

Ever since the THS Conclave toured this theater in 1999 it has been close to our hearts.  Despite a string of disappointment and mismanagement, this plucky theater has refused to give up or give out – holding on for dear life, waiting for the right combination of skill, savvy and fortitude to come forward to bring it back to glory.  Here’s hoping that this new collaboration is the magic formula!
