BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — The lights are back on at Vermont’s iconic Latchis Theater and Hotel for the first time since Brattleboro was flooded by Tropical Storm Irene.
The electricity was restored on Monday and the building was inspected on Tuesday. The hotel is now ready to start accepting guests once again. The theater is set to reopen Oct. 14.
The Latchis Theater and Hotel is run by the nonprofit Brattleboro Arts Initiative.
The Latchis building was among the most severely damaged when the Whetstone Brook flooded downtown Brattleboro on Aug. 28.
The Brattleboro Reformer (http://bit.ly/nAUVYj) says electrical and heating systems were completely destroyed and contractors have been working to get the hotel and theater back in shape.
