Avalon Theater auctioning off vintage production equipment, seating
The renovation of the Bay View neighborhood’s historic Avalon Theater will take another step forward this week, as the owner of the building makes way for
improvements by auctioning off vintage production equipment, projectors, lighting, popcorn machines and seating, according to Alderman Tony Zielinski.
Online bidding will begin Wednesday afternoon, March 13, at 12:00 p.m., and continue for a week. The theater (located at 2469-2483 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) will be open on Saturday, March 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for bidders to walk through and inspect items that are up on the auction block. Any time during the auction, web users can log on to http://www.badgerauction.com/events/auction-detail/?id=198774
to take part in the bidding.
Recently, the Avalon’s current owner, Lee Barczak, purchased and successfully
reopened the Times Cinema on Milwaukee’s west side and the Rosebud Cinema
Drafthouse in Wauwatosa. Alderman Zielinski said the success of those two projects and the auction of the old equipment from the Avalon means the Bay View neighborhood is that much closer to having its historic theater renovated and open for business.
“I know it is taking a while, but we are bucking the trend and opening up a
shuttered theater that stands to be a real gem for the Bay View neighborhood,” Alderman Zielinski said. “This will continue the momentum we are building on Kinnickinnic.”
