Orpheum, Champaign, Illinois Needs Your Votes

PEPSI GRANT POSSIBLE FOR REHAB

Go on line by Nov. 30 to vote for this $250,000 grant for auditorium and stage renovation of this 1914 Rapp and Rapp design. They did over 400 theatres and their great nephew and great, great nephew are THS members. You’ll note similarities in the Orpheum to the Al. Ringling, Baraboo, WI and the Central Park, Chicago, other early R&R designs.

The Orpheum Children’s Science Museum already uses ancillary space in the building as its facility but wants to increase its programming by using the theatre portions. They are currently ranked #43 in the competition. Pretend you’re from Chicago — vote early, vote often !

Look for a Pepsi Grant voting challenge from THS in December to fund staff and materials to clear up the collection backlog in our American Theatre Architecture Archives.
