The PEPSI REFRESH PROJECTS could help the Calumet Theatre replace its roof! Please, take a moment to check out their website at www.calumettheatre.com to see how YOU can help!
The Calumet Theatre, a designated National Historic Landmark, celebrated its 110th birthday on March 20, 2010. A community icon that serves over 17,000 people per year with concerts, movies, plays and tours, a new roof at the cost of $250,000 is essential to the future of the structure. Additionally, over $160,000 of interior water damages have resulted from the deteriorated roof.
Parts of the beautifully restored Theatre have been closed to tours. Tarps are positioned behind the scenes channeling water into buckets in hopes of preventing future damage. The damage already done can be seen on the YOUTUBE video “Calumet Theatre roof project”. Click here:
The Calumet Theatre Co. is now attempting to raise the $250,000 needed to replace the roof. The current focal point of this effort is participation in the Pepsi Refresh Project (Pepsi Refresh.com). After finishing 17th nationally in December’s voting, the Theatre is again in the running for $250,000 in January. Many area residents are voting daily, but the surrounding small communities need more help to get the necessary votes to succeed.
I am desperately trying to increase the daily votes needed to secure funding for a new roof. Could you or the Historical Society provide help or offer suggestions to reach this goal? Theatre and voting information may be found at the Calumet Theatre’s website at www.calumettheatre.com.
