There could be a role for all 17 candidates for the Farmington Civic Theatre Ad Hoc Committee.

“We are hoping that everyone can become engaged,” said Mayor Tom Buck after the candidates were interviewed by the council Monday evening in what he called a “terrific” meeting.

“Every candidate that was there brought a unique talent, capability or experience. There were movie lovers, theater lovers and lovers of downtown Farmington,” he said.

The candidates introduced themselves and shared their ideas.

“It was really a wonderful discussion,” he said.

They also met in groups. That format was helpful in many ways, including allowing council members “to see how they would work together.”

Now, council members are reviewing the applicants to see who would be the strongest candidates for the core 9-member committee, Buck said.

“We are trying to make the appointments by the Feb. 15 meeting.”

The Farmington City Council established the Civic Theatre Ad Hoc Committee in December, open to anyone interested in theater, regardless of residence.
