Franklin Theater restoration to resume Apr. 7
March 25, 2010
FRANKLIN — The project to restore the 1937 Franklin Theater is ready to resume again with an April 7 groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of reconstruction and detail the scope of work.
The ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. April 7. A brief program and celebration will include remarks from the leadership of the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County — coordinators of the effort to save the theater — recognition of donors, and presentation of design boards that reveal the details of the new Franklin Theatre. The Heritage Foundation also promised “a few surprises” at the event.
The theater closed in January, 2007. Work so far has involved gutting the interior. The Heritage Foundation, with the support of hundreds of donors, was able to purchase the theater in late 2007 and has been planning its restoration and expansion ever since.
