Franklin Theatre Restoration Begins

Groundbreaking Ceremony Wednesday

POSTED: 7:13 am CDT April 7, 2010

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — After two and a half years of planning, crews will finally break ground Wednesday morning for a renovation project at the historic Franklin Theatre.

By January 2009, the Heritage to Save the Franklin Theatre raised enough in donations to buy the building that dates back to 1937, and has been planning to restore the theater ever since. The foundation has collected $3.6 million in donations for the project so far.

Once the renovation is done, it will feature a neon marquee like the one that was on display in the 1930s.

The new theater will not only show films, but will also host live performances and special events.
