The Park won’t be rockin’ for at least two years. In the meantime, it’s okay to have some fun.(…)
A vaudeville and movie house for 50 years, the Art Deco-style theater was purchased four years ago by donors from 11 towns and 13 states across the country. A group of residents then formed a nonprofit corporation and began a $2.6 million capital campaign to restore the theater.
Once the 400-seat theater re-opens, movies and live performances will return.
Caroline Hollister, president of the theater’s board of trustees, said the project was set to begin earlier.
“The economy sort of slowed us down,” she said. “It took us a while to regroup.” Things have been back on track, thanks to $500,000 in tax credits the project received last fall. The hope is to be able to break ground in a year to a year-and-a-half.
