Planned: Lincoln Park, MI – Park Theatre

Historic Theater Getting Second Life

Last Update: 6:17 pm

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) – A historic Lincoln Park theater is getting a second life as part of a new development, but it has to get ready for its close up first.

The Park Theatre is known for its distinctive Streamline Moderne marquee. It was designed by C. Howard Crane and served the downriver area for years, before closing in the 1970′s. After that is served as a porn shop until closing a few years ago.

A developer is now working to turn the facility into a mixed-use retail and housing complex. Plans call for the complex to keep its highly identifiable marquee.

However, before that it will serve as a backdrop for a project filming at the nearby Lifton Institute for Media Skills.
