Pelham, NY – The Picture House has announced a weekend of festivities to celebrate the rich history of the 1921 Pelham Picture House movie theater before it closes its doors for renovations.

During Oscar weekend (Friday, March 5 to Sunday, March 7), the nonprofit organization will hold three different events in the theater. Playing on the weekend’s theme, “Celebrate a Classic,” the events will showcase classic films as well as focus on the Picture House theater itself—a true classic.

The recent success of the Picture House’s December 4th Fundraiser, which yielded $200,000 for the capital campaign to transform the theater, allowed the organization to move forward with the construction plans. These renovations, unprecedented in the theater’s nearly 90-year history, will both preserve the building’s historical integrity and update the theater for the 21st century. The planned upgrades include: new seats, expanded lobby and concession area, newly ADA-compliant restrooms, and more.
