If anyone is wondering why Vonnie Corsini is so passionate about restoring the Colonial Fox Theatre in Pittsburg, Saturday’s Shamrock Festival was a pretty good answer.

The second installment of what will likely become an annual event was “twice as nice” as the inaugural festival a year ago and, according to Corsini, a shining example of what a restored theater could mean for downtown Pittsburg.

“Our dream is to revitalize the downtown district,” said Corsini, Colonial Fox Theatre Foundation executive director. “If we can get the Colonial Fox Theatre restored, that can be an anchor for revitalization. There can be more events like this (Shamrock Festival). If we can make a niche for the downtown district as an arts and culture district and an entertainment district, we can begin to have more one-day festivals on a regular basis.

“Our whole idea here is to begin to help people see and appreciate coming downtown,” she said. “We do this to help people. That’s why we’re here and doing these things.”
