Limited edition reissue of the classic 1927-1930 reference book, American Theatres of Today, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Theatre Historical Society of America (2009). This rare volume has long been out of print and is highly prized by collectors and historians. Written and published at the height of the movie palace era, it includes essays, photos and drawings by the architects, designers, and engineers who made these dream theatres a reality.
The book, by R. W. Sexton and B. F. Betts, was originally published as two separate volumes in 1927 and 1930. The combined reprint is 368 pages which feature 113 theatres, 275 photographs, and 278 drawings and plans. It also contains an introduction by famed showman Samuel L. “Roxy” Rothafel. To do justice to this very special book, the original volumes were scanned using the latest technology and equipment, and republished by THS in a large 9×12” format on heavy acid-free paper into a single volume. Only three of the original 400 limited edition reprint are left, so hurry before they’re gone!
