Recap: Open House & Dedication Ceremony

We were thrilled this past Friday to welcome members from the local community to our newly renovated space in Elmhurst, IL to celebrate the dedication of the new Willis & Shirley Johnson and Classic Cinemas Research & Education Center. We are incredibly thankful to Willis & Shirley Johnson for their leadership support of the project and those who stopped by to share in our celebration.

Shirley Johnson, Craig Morrison & Willis Johnson

Created to foster scholarly and personal research on historic theatres, the Willis & Shirley Johnson and Classic Cinemas Research & Education Center helps THS fulfill its mission to document and promote the role that historic theatres have played in the social, cultural and architectural history of America. We look forward to welcoming you in 2014 for your own on-site exploration of the collections in the archives at THS.

  1. Great photo, and a wonderful and very appropriate tribute. Congratulations!

  2. Craig Cook

Many thanks to the Johnsons for their generosity and leadership. As residents of Downers Grove, we have enjoyed taking our children to movies at the Tivoli, and are fortunate to have attended concerts and other events there. Kudos to the Johnsons, preserving this splendid theatre would not have been possible without their business acumen.
