On Tuesday workers tore out floor boards to level the footing in the theater and renovated an area at the back of the building that will become an elevated stage for the pianos and other entertainment.

Framed movie posters coated in a layer of dust still hung on the walls of the former theater.

While demolishing parts of the building’s interior, workers discovered an ornate stamped-metal ceiling and schoolhouse-style lights that had been covered up.

LeMaster said the historic aspects of the building, such as the stamped ceiling, will be restored as much as possible.

“I was pleasantly surprised to see this,” LeMaster said of the light fixtures and stamped-metal ceiling. “I thought `Wow, what a hidden gem.”’
