OCALA – City leaders will sign a 12-month contract with Carmike Cinemas, Inc. this afternoon that will officially allow the lights to be turned back on at Marion Theatre.
The Columbus, Ga.-based company will begin showing films at the historic downtown theater this summer. But it plans to make some alterations to the building first. An official grand opening date will be announced later.
“This is a quality of life project that will further enhance the downtown area as a place for the community to gather and enjoy family-oriented activities,” Ocala City Council president Kent Guinn stated in a press release ahead of the signing.
