Obviously, “redevelopment of the Theater and/or adjacent municipally-owned public surface parking lots for commercial and/or residential uses” isn’t an acceptable option for this theater property – but we pass on the RFP as a point of interest in the historic timeline of this theater. City Issues RFP for Revitalization of Highland Park Theater Property
HIGHLAND PARK, IL – The City of Highland Park, Illinois, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the revitalization of the municipally-owned Highland Park Theater property, located at 445 Central Avenue. Such proposals may include, but are not limited to, the purchase, lease, renovation, management and/or operation of the existing Theater. Submitted proposals may also contemplate redevelopment of the Theater and/or adjacent municipally-owned public surface parking lots for commercial and/or residential uses.
The Highland Park Theater originally opened in 1927 as a performing arts theater known as The Alcyon. The building has since been divided into four movie theaters, ranging in size from 130 to 410 seats, in which first and second-run films currently are screened. The entire building comprises slightly more than 20,000 gross square feet of space, and the property is approximately 12,000 sq. ft. in size. Combined, the adjacent surface public parking lots are approximately 52,300 sq. ft. in size, and currently provide 120 off-street parking spaces.
