San Francisco, CA — Exclusive images of the St. Francis Theatre being demolished

Many thanks to THS Member Terry Monohan who sent in these exclusive photos of the St. Francis Theatre in San Francisco, CA being demolished this past weekend.

He reports:

Here are exclusive photos I took today Sunday, April 28, 2013 of this week’s wrecking ball of the Plitt ABC St. Francis movie theatre in downtown San Francisco, CA. They had plenty of steel for the second floor cinema in the front of the old balcony. On some of the photos you can see the old box projection booth.

I was very brave in taking these as the rats tried to eat my shoes. Tried to get into the lobby area but it was too dangerous as the falling cement was hitting my camera and my head. Good thing no earthquakes happened or I would not be able to share these images with you.

Gone are the days of this once proud Market St Theatre that showed roadshow 70mm from time to time in the late 60′s To bad the SF Chronicle has not published any photos or information from the destruction going on this week in new Mid-Market area of SF. The old movie palace will be gone by Tuesday.
