Out With The Old, In With The New!
After careful planning, donations from the community and a generous grant from the City of DeKalb, the time has finally arrived for new theatre seats.
The Egyptian Theatre will begin renovations the week of June 13, 2011. Renovations for 2011 include replacing the existing seats, which are from 1929, with all new seating. The new seats will resemble the existing seats which will continue our mission of protecting the historical integrity of the theatre.
There will also be significant decorative plaster and paint restoration in the lobby areas and installation of a brand new sound system which will replace the existing system from 1983. The new sound system will have a wonderful impact on all of the live events and films that the theatre is host to.
Last but not least, work will begin to prepare for the installation of air-conditioning in 2012. The theatre has never had air-conditioning since it opened in 1929 and consequently there is no programming during the summer months. With the addition of air-conditioning the Egyptian Theatre will become a year round facility for the community.
OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY, come out to the Egyptian Theatre and get your historic chair before they’re all gone! Each chair will be available for purchase by the community in order to make way for new seating.
