Smith Center, Las Vegas — new using some old

Some art deco touches at the new Smith Center. Vegas Chatter photo.

THS member Howard Haas of Philadelphia spotted this article on the new Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. Because there are Art Deco and other neo-historic decor throughout the new complex, Howard believes it will be of interest to our members.

To repeat what I just posted, when Sharing this article on Facebook:
Finally! A performing arts center that is BEAUTIFUL, not “different.” May this majestic creation serve as the first nail in the coffin of Self-Consciously-Industrial architecture. Architects have too long been blind to the fact that the public not only is tired of unpainted concrete, exposed steel girders and ductwork…but never liked them in the first place. If it takes a revival of art Deco to create this first crushing blow to the tired Modernist world, so be it. Long live majesty!
