“A group of six entrepreneurs hopes to revive the Sorg Opera House in Middletown, Ohio, near Cincinnati. The historic building,  designed by Cincinnati Music Hall architect Samuel Hannaford  and built in 1891 by industrialist Paul J. Sorg, has stood unused and in disrepair on South Main Street in the heart of downtown  since 2010. . .”

    I would be gratified to hear that the Sorg Opera House was still open, and producing shows. An ancestor of mine, my great-great Aunt Kate Quinn performed at the Sorg in its first year of operation, on Sept 24, 1891. The show was “The County Fair”, which featured as its climax a three-horse race right on stage, in front of a whirling cyclorama showing a half mile of scenery passing behind the thoroughbreds, who did their galloping on treadmills at full speed. It was quite a spectacle at the time…
