State funds allow Colonial Theatre to expand [Phoenixville, Penn.]

The Colonial Theatre is set to expand into an adjacent building with the help of $250,000 in state funding.

The funds, made available by the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, will help the Association of the Colonial Theatre purchase and renovate the neighboring building.

Mary Foote, the Colonial Theatre Association’s executive director, said the expansion means the theater will have more space and be able to offer more programs.

“We did an expansion study because we’ve grown quite a bit,” Foote said. The expansion will help the theater “satisfy the needs of the arts in the community.”

Foote said the purchase of the neighboring building is expected to be completed in December. …

… The theater opened as Harry’s Colonial Opera House with a stage show on Sept. 5, 1903. It cost $30,000 to build. …
