The Great New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse NY is a unique showcase for theater organ lovers.
In 1966 one of the permanent buildings on the Fairgrounds became the home of the RKO Keith’s organ which was saved just ahead of the theater’s demolition by members of the Empire State Musical Instrument Museum. The organ was installed in the Harriet May Mills Building (also known as the Arts & Home Center) where it remains today for the enjoyment of generations of listeners.
The Musical Instrument Museum will be open to the public for the duration of the State Fair which commences August 26 and runs through September 6. The museum features a working player piano which visitors are invited to play (with assistance from museum volunteers) as well as an extensive display of Keith’s Syracuse theater artifacts and memorbilia.
