THS FALL ROAD TRIP Part 2

The former El Tovar Theatre, Crystal Lake, Illinois. Two adjacent storefronts are now gallery and lobby space for the Raue Center.

Following our Nov. 26 visit to the Genesee Theatre, Waukegan, Illinois our intrepid THS road trippers moved on to the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake .  The Raue is a producing house with a big line-up of its own shows. www.rauecenter.org

We were greeted by our great tour guide Judy Minsley who showed us what had orginally  been the atmospheric El Tovar Theatre when opened in 1929. It was designed by Elmer Behrns, a Rapp & Rapp staffer who struck out on his own and designed a number of small town theatres including the York, Elmhurst, IL, the twenty year home to THS . Thanks Raue Center folks for the hospitality !
