Timeless Classics – Baltimore & Maryland Theaters

Amy Davis, a photographer/author who is working on a book on Baltimore’s forgotten theaters, wants to share some beautiful old and new theater photographs:

The Carroll Arts Center in downtown Westminster, MD, which was formerly the Carroll Theatre, has four evocative “Lensbaby” color photos by Amy Davis of old Baltimore theaters, including the Ritz, Howard, Astor and Crest. The images are from her book-in-progress, “Flickering Treasures: Rediscovering Baltimore’s Forgotten Movie Theatres.” The group photo show, “Solo Journeys Through the Lens,” is on view through Feb. 18, 2011. For more information, call 410 848-7272.

Want to see gorgeous old photos of some of Baltimore’s memorable theaters? “Timeless Classics,” an article by Amy Davis in the winter 2011 issue of the Maryland Historical Society’s magazine is showcased in Maryland Life magazine. The article highlights the extensive collection of theater photographs in the Md. Historical Society’s H. Furlong Baldwin Library. The Auditorium, Valencia, Palace, Harlem and Centre theaters are featured. Here’s the link: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/greatstate/mdhsnews_2011winter/#/0
