Chillicothe’s Town Theatre is making the transition to digital projectors. The current owners, Chillicothe Optimist Club, runs the theater as a project to support area youth have already purchased the projectors.
The Optimists are highlighting the change to digital projectors with a special event at 3 p.m. Monday called the Death of Film Eulogy and Funeral. A funeral procession will mark the death of film. A short skit will highlight the transition. Pallbearers will be local actors representing those who have graced the screen. The public is welcome to attend, which is planned for the Town Theatre lobby. The first movie to be played digitally will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 25.
The projector fund also received several unexpected donations. Chillicothe alumni are challenging each other to help Town Theatre with its upgrade to digital equipment. It started with members of the 1963 class suggested that their class give a donation to one of the landmarks from their youth. they issue a challenge to the other classes: whatever the graduation year, donate that amount of money. For example, the Class of 1963 would donate $63 to the cause. Then the challenge extended that each of the classmates to give a personal donation also.
Classmates from 1961, 1963 and 1965 met Thursday afternoon to present their checks to the Chillicothe Optimist Club. Checks that day added up to $576. Anyone wanting to meet the challenge, or send whatever donation they are able to give, may send a check, payable to the Chillicothe Optimist Club, P.O. Box 72, Chillicothe, IL 61523.
