Update on Amy Davis’ project “Flickering Treasures”

Photographer Amy Davis reports that her book, “Flickering Treasures: Rediscovering Baltimore’s Forgotten Movie Theaters,” has just received a $10,000 matching grant from a local foundation. Amy adds that this is the ideal time to become a sponsor for the book, which will be published in 2014, because with the “match,” contributions made in 2012 will be doubled.  For more details, see www.facebook.com/flickeringtreasures.

THSA members will enjoy exploring a recent photo album Amy posted on www.facebook.com/flickeringtreasures of theaters from Maryland to Missouri. Amy writes: “During an August road trip from Baltimore to St. Louis (to get our son and daughter settled at Washington U.) we visited 19 theaters in seven states. The resulting album of 40 images on FB is called “Meet Me in St. Louis.” We found a number of magnificent restorations that were integral to the revival of their surrounding downtown areas. After coming home, I learned from a THSA post that one deteriorated theater I photographed, the Rivoli in Indianapolis, is about to be restored. Seeing so many beautiful theaters in other states was inspiring, and gave me more insight into what we should be striving to do in Baltimore.”
