Updates from the Archives: More records added to the online database (& more!)

Archive Collections2Pat Seymour, our Archives Director has been hard at work with his corps of volunteers this past month. Not only have they attacked some of the rehousing backlog with fervor, they’ve also uploaded nearly 10,000 new records to the online catalog for search.

Here’s the detail on the team’s amazing efforts:

Theatre Files
This past week almost 10,000 Theatre Files have been added to our online catalog. Our Theatre File collection is one of our largest collections, it contains news clippings, photographs, histories, programs, some ephemera, and more from theatres all across the USA as well as some international holdings.

# Search the name of your favorite theatre to see if it is represented in our Theatre File Collection.

Balaban & Katz Collection
Our collection of Balaban & Katz materials has been processed, cataloged, and uploaded to the website for your searching pleasure. In the collection you will find operations ledgers from the 20s and 30s, booking contracts for acts performing at various B&K theatres from the 30s thru the early 60s, corporate records from the many B&K companies and more.

# Search “Balaban & Katz” in our online catalog to get started.

John Wright Collection
Starting in early July THS had the pleasure of hosting a group of four students from Dominican University’s Library and Information Science graduate program who are studying to become archivists and library science professionals. For a class project they are processing and arranging the John Wright Collection, which is comprised of 70 boxes of primarily photographs with documents and other artifacts mixed in. They are making tremendous strides with the collection and THS hopes to have a finding aid posted online in the next few months. More soon!
